This is Motherhood

Sometimes I feel guilty when I realize a whole week went by without me reading to my kids at night, but the truth is, my favorite children’s book is the one that unfolds in front of my eyes each and every day.

Loving every day that is an adventure, every chapter of this unpredictable page-turner called motherhood.

This is motherhood.  This is life.

Fruitful Fall

alstede 15 8

I am a sucker for traditions.  I loved the ones that my parents created for my siblings and I when we were younger, and I absolutely love that I now have a family of my own who I can drag on similar annual excursions….I mean, take on similar annual excursions…until my kids are in middle school and then I will be dragging them for sure.  At least for some period of time, before they resurface as young adults.  So, I am relishing in the moment and getting my fill of all the apple-picking, pumpkin-picking, Christmas-tree-plucking goodness I can get my hands on.  Here are some of my favorite photos from a great day with these apple-loving daughters of mine.

Farewell to Summer

summer chasing seagulls

This summer was a good one.  It was the first summer with both my girls.  Their first summer as sisters.  The trips to the beach and the pool, and family vacations were made even more enjoyable having added another little one to love and make memories with.  Here are some of my favorite snippets from summer.

Hello Autumn: Happy First Day of Fall

chambray romper for fall 2

Hello autumn, and happy first day of fall.  This is officially my favorite season and although I will be sad to leave behind beautiful beach days and late nights at the pool with my girls, to me, nothing beats the colors that nature produces this season and the traditions my family and I partake in during these upcoming months.  Not to mention, the ability to indulge in some of the best seasonal treats, like caramel-dipped apples, Starbucks hot chocolate, homemade apple pie and chili on repeat on Sundays.  This chambray romper was the perfect (and easiest) outfit to help me welcome the start of fall.  Three-quarter sleeves were ideal for the chilly morning and the shorts were the solution I needed for the hot afternoon sun.  I made a simple switch from fun, flat sandals in the morning to low-top chucks mid-day, as I spent the afternoon running around the park with my daughters.  So happy that chambray will still be a part of my wardrobe long after summer, since I lived in it for months.  And looking forward to more fall fashion to come.

Lunchtime with Planetbox

planetbox 2

Emma doesn’t go to school long enough for the need to pack a lunch yet, but with the start of the school-year on my mind, I began looking at lunch boxes at the end of this summer.  I found the perfect fit with Planetbox.  Not only are they are eco-friendly, but they make packing creative with lots of little, different sized spots for a variety of items.  They are easy to clean and care for and they come with small condiment holders to keep dressings and toppings stored neatly.  They also came with free decorative magnets that adhere to the outside of the box, so you can make it all your own.  I have already packed these for some end of the summer beach days and for picnic lunches at the park following preschool, but they would be just as great for adults who like bringing their lunch to work.

Get outside the box with this one and try to find ways to incorporate some dairy and veggies into your child’s lunch by packing string cheese or yogurt, carrot sticks and colorful fruit, like cherries, grapes and blueberries.  Another favorite of Emma’s is avocado toast and pita wraps with hummus and green beans.

Happy school-year!
