Every fall, one of my favorite things to do (even well before kids) has been to go apple picking.  Now that I have my own kids, the excitement has doubled.  There is just something about walking through fields of pretty fruit in the September sunshine that doesn’t get old.  And the intoxicating smell of fresh baked, cider donuts doesn’t hurt.  The other day, the girls grabbed their tiny, blue paper baskets and headed straight for the rows of raspberries.  Reese’s tactic was to just eat as she went along.  Emma, on the other hand, made sure she had a neat, bright-red pile before she dipped into her findings.  Since my absolute favorite apples are the Honeycrisp, we spent our time in that section of the orchard after berry-picking and we all pitched in to bring back one seriously heavy crate.  Though the crate now has a lot less apples than when we brought it home, it is still sitting on the counter until the rain hits towards the end of this week and I can stay in and make an apple crumb pie.  Here are a bunch of photos from our trip to the farm the other day.

I may not be able to zip it up over my current baby bump, but this suede moto jacket that was on backorder from the Nordstrom anniversary sale was my favorite purchase from the event and my most highly anticipated shipment as of late.  So, naturally, I have been wearing it each day since it has arrived, somehow tying it into all sorts of outfits.  The color is the perfect hue for fall and will go with everything in my closet.  I have already styled it for both the warm, late September weather and the past few days that have been on the cooler side.  It can easily be dressed up or down and I would pair it with a ruffled skirt or maxi dress just as often as I would wear it with cut-off denim shorts and white sneakers.

Hello, Fall + Happy Decorating

Hello, fall.  This has always been, and will probably always be, my favorite season.  The weather this past weekend has solidified that.  And it is one of the very best things about living in the northeast part of the country, which boasts some breathtaking fall sunsets, cool, crisp air, and colors straight out of a painting.  With help from the natural fall foliage, I love decorating this time of year.  And it may be nesting kicking in, both figuratively and literally – as I’m due with our third child in just a couple of weeks, and currently closing on a new house at the same exact time (two things I definitely don’t advise you to attempt to do together), but I have been pinning fresh, new decor ideas like crazy.  The new house has a big, wrap-around front porch that I cannot wait to fill each season.  Here are some images of seriously inspiring outdoor seasonal decor ideas that I am loving right now.

1.  Halloween Theme

I love all things Halloween, and decorating with this holiday in mind is easy to do by adding spooky elements like black crows or witches hats or broom sticks.

2.  Pumpkins in Planters

Filling existing planters with real or faux pumpkins means you can recycle urns you already have and it gives the decor a little added dimension by being able to place items at different heights.

3.  Monochromatic

While I usually stick with the full array of colors that fall has to offer, I think a simple, monochromatic color-scheme is also a great, crisp, clean look.  And white gourds are a fresh alternative.

4.  Using Pumpkins for Purpose

I came across a few doorsteps and front porches that used pumpkins to welcome guests, display their house number and sport fall phrases.  The look is easy to achieve with a Sharpie or paint pen in the color of your choice.

5.  Natural Fall Foliage

The use of fallen leaves and bunches of seasonal flowers grouped together is always classic.  It looks natural and effortless.
