On my wishlist of things I would really want in a forever home, is a designated laundry room. Right now, our washer and dryer are tucked behind white doors in our main floor bathroom located at the back of the house. While it’s pretty convenient for me to be able to fold clothes on the first floor where the girls spend so much of their time doing homework, having a snack and relaxing on the couch, I really miss not having a separate room with a little more space to get all of that done and more importantly, extra space to store said laundry, and all that comes with it. Although I do have plans to spruce up this small spot a bit with some hooks and either a coat of paint or a solid, textured wallpaper behind the current shelves, for now, I was able to maximize the limited space we do have by adding baskets and labeling each one for easy access. We actually store a lot of miscellaneous items in this room, from cleaning solutions to first aid supplies, to laundry detergent and stain removers, to vacuum parts, to vases. And just as in every other room of the house, it is so helpful to make sure everything has its place and there’s a place for everything :).
I got a lot of questions on which baskets I used and where to get the labels, so I thought I would share more details about the sources here. I originally used a chalkboard pen to handwrite the labels, but each time I grabbed something out of one of the bins, the words would get smudged and I was constantly re-writing them. These vinyl pantry labels were perfect and so easy to use. Now, the writing is clear and crisp and never smudges. And as unexciting as laundry rooms can be, I don’t mind going in there to grab something or start the wash anymore because everything is neatly labeled and in plain sight.
